Brian Culbertson on Mason & Hamlin, live from NAMM!
Keyboard Magazine and our Smooth Jazz star rave about M&H pianos
January 20, 2010
Keyboard Magazine caught up with Smooth Jazz superstar
Brian Culbertson
in Mason & Hamlin's booth at the 2010 NAMM Show. In a
video interview
Culbertson talks about his appreciation for Mason & Hamlin, the piano he endorses and uses in his studio and on all his CDs and music video projects.
Keyboard's reporter,
Robbie Gennet
(a pianist himself), and Culbertson discussed the all-important subjects of the piano's clarity of tone, ability to project and play with color and subtlety. According to Brian, the Mason & Hamlin piano has "the purest tone...when you hit a note there's nothing but tone. When you play some pianos there's something else there, but these pianos have the totally clearest tone." Brian went on to comment that the M&H piano "...has power when you need it but then you can play some ballads that are beautiful."
Later, Gennet sat down at the same piano and did his own test. After trying a number of different styles of music (everything from rock, classical and jazz to boggie woogie and a pop ballad), he said, "That's a beautiful piano! Gorgeous. The sound of this is so rich it kind of puts everything else we've played into a different perspective."
