Mason & Hamlin added a mid-size grand piano to its line of handcrafted pianos with the introduction of its new Model AA. Mason & Hamlin debuted its new grand piano as part of its 150th Anniversary celebration in 2004.
The Model AA, at 6’ 4”, joins the company’s current grand piano Model A (5’8”) and Model BB (7’) and its professional upright Model 50. Although new to Mason & Hamlin in the 21st century, the Model AA was a mainstay of the company’s grand piano line during the early to mid 20th century. The current AA’s design borrows from company specifications from that era and includes the Tension Resonator, which Mason & Hamlin developed in 1900 and has used on all Mason & Hamlin pianos built since that time. New design elements have also been incorporated into the piano.
“What better way to celebrate Mason & Hamlin’s 150th Anniversary than to bring back a great piano that was part of our past? By putting our own stamp on it, in the form of new design elements, it will also be an important part of our future,” commented company president Kirk Burgett.
